Deliberation and Intentions

چکیده
Deliberation plays an important role in the design of rational agents embedded in the real-world. In particular, deliberation leads to the formation of intentions, i.e., plans of action that the agent is committed to achieving. In this paper, we present a branching-time possible-worlds model for representing and reasoning about, beliefs, goals, intentions, time, actions, probabilities, and payo s. We compare this possibleworlds approach with the more traditional decision-tree representation and provide a transformation from decision trees to possible worlds. Finally, we illustrate how an agent can perform deliberation using a decision-tree representation and then use a possibleworlds model to form and reason about his intentions.

متن کاملAn Architecture for Normative Reactive Agents
We present a reactive agent architecture which incorporates decision-theoretic notions to drive the deliberation and meta-deliberation process, and illustrate how this architecture can be exploited to model an agent who reacts to contextually instantiated norms by monitoring for norm instantiation and replanning its current intentions.

Leendert van der Torre CWI Amsterdam [email protected] 1 The challenge of decision-theoretic deliberation Agent theory proposes to model the behavior of complex software systems in terms of mental attitudes like belief, desires, goals, intentions and obligations, ranging from, e.g., the PRS system [7] to the more recent BOID architecture [3]. Decision-theoretic deliberation captures concepts and rea...
متن کاملBDI and BOID Argumentation
In this discussion paper we are interested in the role of argumentation in the context of cognitive BDI and BOID agents, i.e., agents whose deliberation is based on beliefs, obligations, intentions and desires. We discuss argumentation issues for single agent deliberation, multiagent dialogues, and interaction between agents and their normative system. For each category we discuss examples and ...
متن کاملIntegrating BDI and Bayesian Networks in Agent Reasoning
This paper focuses on a Social Agent which has been modeled using probabilistic networks and acts in an educational application. Using the Social Agent as a testbed, we present a way to perform the deliberation process in BDI (Belief-Desire-Intention) and Bayesian networks. The assemblage of mental states and Bayesian Networks is done by viewing beliefs as networks, and desires and intentions a...
